Poetry Competition Terms and Conditions
Please read the information provided within Repton Festival's Poetry Competition Terms and Conditions before entering this competition.
Theme: Journey/Journeys
We would encourage a wide interpretation of this theme. Your journey may be physical, imaginary, emotional, metaphorical, or of an entirely different nature. Well written humour is welcome.
Form: A story in verse, told with strong rhythms and alliteration within and across lines with all entries in English.
Length: 80 lines maximum, excluding title and stanza breaks.
Entry Fee: £5 per entry or three for £10.
Prizes: Winner £350, Runner-up £100, Third Place £50, Certificates for Highly Commended and Commended entries.

Deadline for receipt of entries: Midnight on 31 August 2023
Judges: Longlisted entries will be judged by Jo Bell and Tristram Fane Saunders, the longlist will be decided by a panel of local poets selected by the competition administrator.

Entries:

Entries will be judged anonymously, nothing which may identify the author should be on the manuscript or in the file name.

Entries should be typed, single spaced, in a black 12- or 14-point standard non-cursive font (e.g., Times New Roman, Arial, Calibri etc) without illustration

Entries must be emailed as a .doc or .docx attachment to gary@reptonfestival.co.uk.

Entries for the competition must be purchased through the Repton Festival website TICKET PAGE, www.reptonfestival.co.uk. You will receive a numbered ticket, the ticket number is your entry number.

Subject should begin with the word “Skald” and should contain your ticket number, put your name, address, and contact email in the body of the email. The attachment name should be the poem title.

Winners and commended entrants will be contacted approximately two weeks prior to the festival, winners will not be announced before the awards ceremony.

Entries received after midnight on 31st August 2023 will not be considered for the poetry prize

You may not enter if you work for, or are associated with, the festival or it’s sponsors

Winners and commended writers for both the poetry and film competitions will be required to provide a short biography.

Additional prizes may be offered to the first, second and third placed entrants.

By entering the competition you:

allow the organisers non-exclusive electronic and physical publication rights

are confirming that the entry is the sole work of the named entrant. Plagiarism is fraud and will be treated accordingly. Translations of work by others are not allowed.

accept that the decision of the judges is final and that no correspondence will be entered into.

confirm acceptance of all competition rules, terms and conditions.

confirm that your image and biography may be used by the festival for promotional use
